Why do Life Insurance Companies require a Medical Exam?
To verify the information originally submitted to the company in your life insurance application.
To take a full medical history of the applicant. The questions on the life insurance medical exam go into your medical history and that of your family in greater depth.
To identify any underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes, inconsistencies in the blood work, or HIV that the applicant may not be aware of or or may not have declared. Also to verify drug or nicotine use.
Some insurance companies require an ECG and if you are 50 or over, in some cases a prostate marker dosage (PSA= Prostate Specific Antigen) may also be needed.
